Larry Rybacki's thoughts on 30 Years of the Rybacki Memorial and passing the $1Million milestone.
It's hard to imagine that thirty years have gone by since we first started The Rybacki Memorial at Juniper Hill Golf Course with sixteen players. To see the growth over the years thanks to your generosity has truly been inspiring. Chris and I, along with Bobby Paradise and Dian and John Laganelli want to thank you all as we crossed the $1Million mark last year after raising $146,000 last September 30th.
It's with a heavy heart that I write this letter because 2 months ago we lost my sister Cyndi
Paradise unexpectedly to a brain hemorrhage. Cyndi was the same age (66) as my father when he passed, but she will never leave us as she was a loving wife to Bobby P for 42 years, a great Mom to Amanda and Matt, and a wonderful "Mamie" to Brynlee, Willow, Charlotte, and Oliver. Chris and I often talk about the shock of losing so many close family members and friends in such a short period of time. But the circle of life continues and although missed they will never be forgotten!
This year we are targeting brain cancer, supporting the work of Dr. Lakshmi Nayak who saved our friend Scott Simon from this dreaded disease. Scott has been fighting for almost two years and he is now enjoying life again. Our dear friend Bill Driskill from Virginia is in Boston as I write this for treatment at Dana-Farber because his family wanted him to have the best care in the world, and he is getting it!
None of this would be possible without the strong support of our sponsors and we want to thank each and every one of you (See list below).) Thank you to the players and their families and to the wonderful people at The Haven headed by Brian Moffett and his staff.
I share some highlights and lowlights from the last year, and of course, some thoughts while showering…
Highlights:
PGA Tour Pro Andrea Rona making her debut carrying around husband Mitchell, Jimmy Bruso, and Tom Whittington.
Chris Rybacki and Lisa Oates joining the Louie Bruening Fan Club, it now has two members!
Nancy Federspiel and Nicole Roth winning the Snyder Division while their husbands; Greg and Sam watched in awe.
Leanna Rybacki played one hole, got a par for us and then vanished for the remainder of the day with her partner in crime Nicole Marie Rybacki.
Donnie Mahoney - The world-renowned singer and song writer showed he has game. Well done.
Greg Rybacki passing his med boards on his first try, both MD and DO. Congrats Dr. Rybacki!
Lowlights:
Andrew Perry - Barely nudged out Marty Benowitz, me, and Jay Hershman for the men's longest drive. His blast of almost 340 yards was a mere 201 yards longer than ours. Lucky!
Nick Jaeger- World famous marathon runner looked a little out of shape in his "stunning" outfit. Dunkin Donuts has taken its toll.
Michael Rybacki - Deciding to try Vespa riding on our family's trip to Italy. Within 30 seconds he crashed and broke his leg! Young Dr. Rybacki and I spent five hours in a hospital in Tuscany where very little English was spoken. Patient is progressing but slowly, 10 to 12 week recovery.
Thoughts While Showering:
John Proulx can't wipe the smile off his face since Dennis Shea moved to NC.
340 million people in this country and it may come down to Biden and Trump again? What's wrong with us?
Cam Kerr, Dan Lynch, Zack Twitchell, and Nicole Rapp all engaged? Could Pete Ambrose be next?
Since Mike Roy cut his golf to five days a week (doesn't play on weekends) his game has gone into the toilet.
How much fun is it to get old instead of talking about sports, current events, etc.? We talk about our ailments and the pills we take on a daily basis. Sure beats the alternative.
Played with Chuck Roche last year who gave me my start in the Waterworks Industry. When our entire family (twelve of us wer ein Italy) I raised a glass to Chuck for taking a chance on a kid from Northboro!
This year's event will feature a "Texas Death Match" between Tom Shaughnessy of Winwater and DougKoenig from Ferguson. Anyone who bets on Tommy come see me, I have swamp land for sale in Florida!
In conclusion, we wish all of you to have a safe and fun summer and from the bottom of our hearts, thanks again for all your support, it means a lot to us and to Dana-Farber.
