SIGMA’s “Hero Product” Approaches its 40th Anniversary:  Municipal Construction Castings

SIGMA first made waves in the US waterworks market with its range of Municipal Construction Castings products. As the company now approaches its 40th Anniversary, SIGMA remains the ONLY true national supplier of Municipal Construction Castings, with products installed in all 50 states.

SIGMA offers a wide range of heavy castings such as Manhole Rings and Covers, Frames and Grates, and Curb Inlets. The company’s engineers and sales and support teams have the expertise and skills to ensure that casting products meet not only ASTM* and AASHTO* standards, but also the specifications demanded by Federal and State departments’, Canada's BNQ* and individual customer’s technical requirements. Products can be certified by external professional engineers, on request.

SIGMA’s castings are approved in major cities and states including:

Partnering with the City of New York

SIGMA is the leading supplier of Municipal Construction Castings in New York City. Every order dispatched to New York is first inspected by DDC (Department of Design & Construction), New York. DDC sends their inspector to CRM to witness the Mechanical testing of test bars and load test of castings as per their laid-out inspection plan. Only after DDC approval will the order be shipped to our distributor, T Mina, in New York.

The SIGMA Difference:

According to Sreenivasa Rao, MCC Engineer at SIGMA’s Cream Ridge, NJ, testing facility: “Our quality program is unique in the waterworks industry. We have a special responsibility to our customers, as many of our casting products are made overseas. For this reason, we have designed a stringent quality program that assures reliability to the “3 SIGMA” level. The plan starts with each casting having a cast ID - a “heat number”. This unique ID enables SIGMA to identify the location, foundry number, the date of manufacture, and the production batch”.

In more detail, SIGMA’s quality program consists of a five-step plan:

i) Preparation and implementation of Quality Inspection Procedures (QIP) for every product line.

ii) Audit, inspection and testing of the product at the manufacturing location by SIGMA engineers/inspectors stationed in the factories, prior to shipping.

iii) Qualification data on physical, chemical and microstructure tests submitted by the foundry through Material Test Reports (MTR);

iv) Verification of that data by Incoming Quality Control (IQC) procedures at our facilities in the USA

v) Control of the process through feedback obtained from statistical analysis including Statistical Process Control (SPC) of critical factors
